Teaching from a Christian Worldview
OCO celebrates God’s truth and love revealed in Christ through Theological Engagement:
Humble Excellence: Students are invited to see the pursuit of knowledge through Christ’s lens of humility, as the one who emptied himself and became a servant and let love lead his teachings. (Philippians 2:5-7)
Thoughtful Self-Critique: At OCO we present education as a quest, where learning is grounded in personal discovery and a willingness to explore and risk intellectual and spiritual vulnerability in order to gain truth and wisdom. We hold the Old and New Testaments as authoritative on matters of life and faith. (Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 139, 2 Timothy 3:16)
Sincerity in Empathy: We view education as a transformational experience where students let the Holy Spirit guide them into the diverse hearts and minds of scientists, historians, mathematicians, artists, poets, and linguists who can stretch their compassion as they learn from their knowledge. We see all intellectual pursuits as expressions of Christ’s command to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. (Philippians 4:8, John 14:26)
Imaginative Creativity: As a maker, God makes us in his image, hoping that we would treasure that humanity and in turn reflect that image in our own life. Our courses are designed to communicate the beauty and delight in all true and good things so that students can see that what they are learning can fuel the creativity and joy that comes from the Creator. (Genesis 1:27)
