The Online Christian Consortium, a leadership organization of schools committed to theologically engaged, college-preparatory, accredited, online programs expands its member base with the addition of The First Academy, a private, independent Christian school accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The First Academy is also a member of the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS).
This agreement enables The First Academy to not only access the Online Christian Consortium's marketplace of high-level, rigorous, online programs, the membership also makes it possible for schools to develop their own online courses, share curriculum, access best practices in accreditations and transcription, and collaborate in professional development education and strategic visions of new online learning opportunities.Classes are offered via an open-source learning management system Canvas by Instructure. The cloud-based software provides the platform for engaging, high quality online courses with meaningful interactions in an academic environment. The Online Christian Consortium also allows its partner schools to participate in a trust relationship with this learning management system that provides the unique ability for both schools to view the live course in their Canvas instance.
The Online Christian Consortium's programs, including blended and fully-online options, focus on Christ-centered curriculum for Christian schools around the world. The Consortium's mission is to be a collaborative community model of teaching and learning. The Consortium provides guidance to its member schools in areas such as academic honesty, college readiness and success, and policies and procedures to ensure high quality interaction and engagement in the online learning environment.
The Consortium's Founding Director Vicki Conway states, "The Online Christian Consortium creates top-tier, Christian content that prepares students for success in college and in life. Our curriculum, created by Oaks Christian Online, as well as other member schools, promotes critical thinking, theological engagement and a love for learning." The organization's vision is that its courses provide an education that uplifts, transforms and inspires students around the world and that its community model of teaching and learning cultivates a discussion of what it means to be in the world, to be human, and to be good.
