Oaks Christian Online Junior to Act in Short Film
Julia Conoscenti, with the help of her dad, pursues music, acting and sports while preparing for college and beyond. Julia is a junior with Oaks Christian Online, as part of the Oaks Christian campus in Westlake Village, CA. She has recently been cast as a principle role in the film "Street Ships" produced by Regan Young. While on the back lot at Universal Studios this week, Julia commented on the film, "The characters turn their cars into pirate ships and get their whole street to play along. It has this whole Peter Pan whimsical mood to it." Julia plays a supporting role, as the friend of main-character Alex, and they go on magical adventures together.
Local, full-time OCO students had the opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, January 16th.The group was able to spend the day painting, picking up leaves, and clearing out furniture for a local family in Thousand Oaks, CA. Nearly 25% of our full-time student body attended and are looking forward to further projects with this organization. OCO would love to hear stories of your community service; how are you serving?
Re-enrollment Starts on February 6th
Watch for emails and letters regarding the re-enrollment process for next year. Students who complete their signups and roll over their Smart-Tuition accounts by the March deadline will secure this year's pricing. We look forward to walking you through the process and are honored that you have chosen us as your college-preparatory high school.
Spiritual Life Department Updates and Events:
February is an exciting month in the Spiritual Life department! Students will be having another community service opportunity on February 15 in Ventura where they will be invited to participate in a 5K walk/run in order to raise funds for charities fighting against Leukemia. Before that, the Discipleship Group will meet on February 11 at 10:45am PST in the Spiritual Life BBB room. Several students have already committed to being there and are really excited to reconnect.
Additionally, the year-long theme of surrender will continue through the lens of faith in action. Just this past week in the Spiritual Life live session students were discussing Revelation 12 where the woman and child are rescued from the clutches of an evil dragon that represents the forces that work in opposition to Christ. After explaining that this is John's cosmic vision of the powers of the nativity over evil, one student said "this is now my favorite part [of the Bible]". It is so exciting to see this sophisticated and confusing book coming together in the hearts and minds of our students.
