Oaks Christian Online in Top 100 Educational Websites
Homeschool.com has named Oaks Christian Online as one of the top 100 Eduational Websites. Under faith-based schools, they had this to say about the 5-year, online program. "Oaks Christian Online (OCO) is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Southern Association of Independent Schools. Their top-tier curriculum, rigorous requirements for academic honesty and Christian teachers have given them a great reputation with colleges, and they have a 100% acceptance rate by their full-time students to 4-year universities."
Oaks Christian Online as Leadership School in Online Learning
Oaks Christian Online will be hosting its third webinar in a series for the Online Christian Consortium. Previously, OCO has presented on the topics of Theological Engagement and Curriculum Development. This month, our own Director of College Counseling, Cyndy Locke, will be discussing what online college counseling looks like for an online, Independent, Christian school and what success OCO has had with college matriculation over the last 4 years. Schools from across the country have been asked to join us Monday, January 11th, at 4:00 p.m. for this informative presentation. The Online Christian Consortium will be hosting a website where these sessions will be available, and the site should be up in late January.

In addition, students have the option of working with Mrs. Locke to determine the ideal location for their testing. Make sure to sign up early as space can be limited in certain locations.
Spiritual Life Focus for Semester 2
On January 13th at 8am the full-time, OCO students will be returning to the Spiritual Life sessions that were on hiatus for winter break. Several students sent notes and messages talking about how much they missed the sessions during their time off. The focus in the live sessions this month will be on surrendering to Christ in justice and politics taken from Revelation 11-14 which we will journey through for the next few weeks. Additionally, the Discipleship Group will resume on January 14th at 10:45am and will continue through Recreate Your World: Find Your Voice, Shape the Culture, Change the World by Ron and Charity Luce.
Let's Talk College
This month's "Let's Talk College" is January 12th at 5:30 in the Virtual College Counseling Classroom. We are focusing on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form which is the starting place for financial aid and scholarships. The information we will be discussing is vital for our 12th grade students and their families but also for all grade levels as it will help families prepare for the financial aid process.
College Knowledge Night for 11th Grade Students and Parents
College Knowledge Night is the "kick-off" event for 11th grade students college application process. This annual event is being held on the Oaks Christian main campus, and the OCO local 11th grade students and their families are invited to participate. The event takes place Tuesday, January 19th, from 6:15 - 9:00 p.m. in the Price Academic Center. This will allow students and parents to participate in 3 workshops on a variety of topics pertaining to the college admissions process. We are delighted to have a number of college admissions professionals from colleges all over the country participate with us. This has been a well-attended event by local 11th grade, online students in the past. We hope to see you there. Please email Mrs. Locke with your intent to participate.
College Campus Visits: Claremont Colleges
This month we are visiting the Claremont Colleges on January 26th. The Claremont Colleges are a consortium of 5 liberal arts colleges that are highly regarded throughout the country. We will tour 3 of the 5 colleges, Claremont McKenna, Pomona . and Pitzer. We will meet at the OCO office at 7:30 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. (we have to allow for distance and traffic!). Plan on bringing money for both lunch and dinner. Please email Mrs. Locke with your intent to attend this live field trip for local students.
Online Information Session
Prospective families are still able to gather information and apply for the Spring semester. New families wishing to find out more about the world-class online program are invited to attend an online information session. Families will have an opportunity to hear about our college counseling and spiritual life programs as well as hear from the Director and Admissions Department. It's great to hear from other families and online teachers as well. We offer the same session at 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. PST on Tuesdays January 26th February 23rd.
