Student Story: Wakeboarding Locally and Globally!

Hear from Bo, a middle school student and world ranked wakeboarding champion, about what it’s like to stay devoted to his sport and community without compromising education.

My first time on a wakeboard I was 6 years old and I loved it immediately. My dad took me to Keys Cable in the Florida Keys to try their 2.0 system. I loved the excitement of feeling my board slide across the water; it’s a feeling of absolute joy. Then we moved to North Georgia where I discovered Terminus Wake Park which is a full system cable and that is when I started to compete.

Being at OC Online has allowed me to wakeboard at a competitive level because my school schedule is flexible. Although the coursework at OC Online is more challenging than my previous school, I can adjust the work around my wakeboard schedule and travel. I travel 90 miles each trip to the wake park to train, which takes a lot of time. I also travel to SE Asia in the winter months to wakeboard, so OC Online is perfect. Without OC Online it would be very difficult to wakeboard competitively. I am grateful that I can get a quality education and pursue my wakeboarding interests at the same time.

In my experience, OC Online will make you a better student and person! The coursework is rigorous, and you will get out of it what you put in. The teachers are kind and hold a high standard for learning. Other online programs do not offer the one-to-one or live class opportunities, and that is what sets OC Online apart.

Being at OC Online while wakeboarding continues to shape me as an individual athlete because it is challenging and I must set a lot of goals to improve my skills. Also, I have made so many friends around the world because of wakeboarding. Wakeboarding has shaped my life through friendships, individual challenges, and being part of a worldwide community.

Achievements in Wakeboarding

Recently, I placed 2nd at WWA Wakepark Worlds Championship in September 2025 and I am very proud of that because I had to learn a few new tricks the week leading up to the contest. It can be difficult to learn a new trick then land it in contest. It was my first world competition, and I made many new friends from all over the globe. I am most proud of these friendships because we all stay in touch and we can share our love of wakeboarding. None of my friends that live near me know anything about wakeboarding, so having wake friends from other places makes me happy.

I also placed 1st at WWA Wakepark Nationals Championship in August 2024 and again in August 2025.  In summer of 2025 I was invited to BroStock to ride in the rail jam demo at Lake Lanier. I am thankful to Matt Long, the regional Liquid Force rep because he supports me in every way and makes these opportunities possible. BroStock is a huge event sponsored by Liquid Force (the brand I ride for) and I got to be on the dock with all the professional riders I look up to. It was insane and such great experience. I am proud of that opportunity.

Finding Community & Faith in Wakeboarding
But honestly, my local wake park, Terminus Wake Park is the best wake park in America! One of the best parts about Terminus is that we have an organization called Wake Well and our chapter is ran by Anthony Kennedy. During season we meet once a week to discuss different Bible verses that are explained using wakeboarding. Being able to connect with others at Terminus through faith is another great part of how wakeboarding is shaping me. Wake well is a nation-wide organization, so I get to participate with different chapters when I travel to other contests. It’s really cool to see how each park holds their own Wake Well gatherings. Wake Well kind of ties different parks and contests together because it’s something we all share. I like to pray before the contests and hear the different messages others find important.

Terminus is the ultimate training park for riders, but the community created by Chase Andrews (GM) and his staff is the best in the world. They have created a fun environment where everyone is welcomed and supported. I have made many friends and Terminus is our special place; we have potluck dinners, chili cook-offs, and families even spend time together outside of the park. I am so grateful to have them in my life; Terminus is family!

If you are an athlete or have a large community you want to have the flexibility to connect with while still experiencing meaningful, challenging, Christian education, reach out to us at OC Online to talk more!
