Oaks Christian Online School

A Christian, Independent, College-preparatory Online School and Founder of the Online Christian Consortium

Beloved teacher, Amy Harriton, moves from main campus to online school.

Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) welcomes Amy Harriton from the acclaimed Oaks Christian School main campus faculty to her new role with the online school. Amy will move from English teacher and co-department chair to Dean of Students with the online school as the founding Dean, Stevi Jones, transfers to Texas. Amy has been teaching for 14 years and has recently been teaching Honors and CP Argumentation and American Ideology as well as AP English Language and Composition on the main campus. She has taught in private, public and independent schools, and her previous courses have ranged from Journalism and American Authors to the classics. When asked about her favorite books, Amy replies, “My favorite book is the book that’s in hand. I have a love of the classics, though, and I’ve read the Scarlet Letter thirteen or fourteen times; every time I read it I learn something new about the way Hawthorne puts language together.”

Amy is looking forward to mentoring teachers, helping students be successful and continuing to learn about online, self-directed learning. She has taught Argumentation online this past semester and will be teaching online Grammar and Composition and Rhetoric and Style this coming semester. “I know that online learning can appeal to particular student interests – even help craft those interests, and I have a dream about the possibility of more blended student opportunities between on campus and online in the future,” she says. Amy also understands the value of alternative learning on a more personal level. Her five-year-old daughter attends a hybrid, classical school that allows her to be at home two days per week. “We see the value of alternative education and flexibility for our daughter as well as for our family. It allowed us to map out our dream curriculum and embark on a family journey.”
