Julia Conoscenti, with the help of her dad, pursues music, acting and sports while preparing for college and beyond.
Westlake Village, CA – January 27, 2016
Julia Conoscenti is a junior with Oaks Christian Online school, as part of the Oaks Christian campus in Westlake, Village, CA. She has recently been cast as a principle role in the film “Street Ships” produced by Regan Young. While on the back lot at Universal Studios this week, Julia commented on the film, “The characters turn their cars into pirate ships and get their whole street to play along. It has this whole Peter Pan whimsical mood to it.” Julia plays a supporting role, as the friend of main-character Alex, and they go on magical adventures together.
Julia has had the opportunity to pursue many of her passions this school year by participating in the Tear’s Fall music video with Jacquie Lee last summer and in a Nickelodeon Halloween special in October. With the help of her agent, Julia beat out over 4,000 applicants for the music video cameo and earned the Nickelodeon spot by submitting videos to an acting website. Besides acting, Julia also plays the piano, sings and takes lessons at the Rocket Dance Studio. Even with all those interests, Julia also has a love of sports. She has been a runner for about 10 years and won the 400 meter state championships in 7th grade with a time of 61 seconds. She also runs the 4x400 and, with her Thousand Oaks Flyers club team, broke a seventeen year-old record in that event.
Julia hopes to continue to run track in college, but her major will probably be in broadcasting and communication to compliment her love of the entertainment industry. “If I didn’t have music and acting, my life would be so boring. I need a way to express myself,” she states. Julia is taking rigorous online courses in Pre-calculus, AP English Language and Chemistry in order to target such schools as NYU, Pepperdine, UCLA, UCSB and others with the types of programs she’s interested in. Julia has used the Oaks Christian Online school college-preparatory program to balance all of her outside interests. She says, “If I want to have a career and take it seriously, this online program is amazing. Its flexible schedule has helped me to prepare for what I want.”
Julia is also quick to praise her father’s role in her unique high school experience. “My dad and I have had to overcome some concerns about this high school path. I’m using any pressure I’ve felt to fuel me and achieve more.” Julia explains that her dad spent two days in costume for the Nickelodeon video , learned all the words to the Jacquie Lee video and drives her everywhere. “Without my dad, I wouldn’t have had these opportunities; we went through this together.”
