Andi Longan signs with Vision Los Angeles to continue her modeling career.
Westlake Village, CA - October 30, 2015 Oaks Christian Online (OCO) Junior Andi Longan has recently signed with Vision Los Angeles, a selective model management agency located in Los Angeles, CA. The 5'11" high school student has done an e-news fashion segment, videos, test shoots, casting calls and would like to do runway and print modeling. Andi was introduced to the idea of modeling by her older sister, Shelby Longan, who is currently studying Neurobiology at ASU and who has high interest in the fashion industry. Andi has been scouted for several years and has been preparing since then for the 15-16 year-old category. Andi chose to go from the Oaks Christian main campus in Westlake Village, CA, to Oaks Christian Online high school to pursue this passion. "I also chose OCO because of its spiritual aspect; I want to keep my faith strong and keep it growing," she says. "The Spiritual Life and Bible classes encourage me to take different perspectives on things, and they also allow me socialize with other online high school students."

Virtual College Counseling Live, Mondays at 2pm (PST)
This month we are happy to host 3 unique colleges from all over the country that are all very different from each other.
First off is Texas Christian University on November 9th. TCU is a medium size university on a beautiful campus in Fort Worth, Texas, that is known for its great school spirit and fantastic programs. From a robust performing arts program to great science and research opportunities, TCU has been a great school for Oaks students to land after high school graduation.
November 16th we will host Salve Regina University. Salve Regina is a campus of about 3,000 students and is a private, liberal arts school. What makes SRU so unique is its incredible campus overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the historic Cliff Walk in Newport, Rhode Island. Salve Regina offers some unique programs: for example they offer one of the few majors in historic preservation (a natural, given their special location).
Finally on November 23rd we will be visited by Michigan State University (a first for us!). Michigan State is a large public university in East Lansing, Michigan. Great research opportunities and great school spirit make this a very attractive school for students.
Parenting Session, Tuesday, November 10th, 4:30-5:30pm PST
The month of November brings a special parent session for any teachers, staff, and/or student guardians interested in exploring faith topics related to parenting teenagers. These sessions reference the book Sticky Faith by Kara E. Powell and other sources and have been very well received in the past. This session will take place on November 10th from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. PST in our Spiritual Life virtual classroom.
Let's Talk College, Tuesday, November 10th 5:30-6:30pm PST
Come and learn about the types of monies available to families to pay for college. This will be a general overview of financial aid and scholarships. We will have a follow-up program in the spring to instruct families about filling out the FAFSA form. Join college counselor Cyndy Locke on November 10th from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. PST in the College Counseling classroom.
Spiritual Life Classes Continue to Focus on Revelation
Mrs. Farinacci, the Spiritual Life Director, says, "This month in our live Spiritual Life sessions, students will shift from exploring worship (Revelation 4 & 5) to gratitude for goodness and freedom from evil (Revelation 6 & 7). All of this will be under the broader school-wide theme of surrender." A student recently said this about their spiritual life class, "As we're studying the book of Revelation we're kind of seeing a picture of Jesus in all his royalty [and] majesty...he was always powerful before [in the gospels] but that wasn't so much [emphasized] before he was resurrected. He would perform miracles, and he would help spread God's message, but he wasn't using his full [cosmic] power as a King, but in Revelation after his resurrection you can really see him even more clearly as a king, leader, and ruler..."
Campus Tour, November 17th, Azusa Pacific University
Come with us as we tour Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA. APU is one of the largest Christian Universities in the country and offers great academic programs and NCAA D2 athletics. We will meet at the OCO office at 10 am and return by 5 pm. Bring money for lunch and RSVP to Mrs. Locke.
The Season of Advent Begins November 29th
It's that time of year when we expectantly prepare for the season of Christmas and the nativity. Full-time online students as well as faculty and staff should keep an eye on their mailboxes for a special gift this month. It's a tradition at OCO to read through a common text in preparation for Christmas!
Happy Thanksgiving from OCO
The OCO staff would like to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday on November 25-27th, as we enjoy time with our families as well. "Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name." Psalm 100:4
